What we Believe
Scripture
Scripture was written by men but was also co-authored by God. The original copies were inspired and inerrant, and the Bible we have today is very close to the original.
The Nature of God
God is all-powerful, always present, and ever loving.
God is Triune
Although there is one God, there are three centers of consciousness in God, or three persons, God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit. These form what is known as the Trinity.
Humankind's Situation
Humankind is God’s creation, fallen from God’s grace through sin, but can be in a right relationship with God through Jesus Christ, God the Son.
Jesus and His Sacrifice
Jesus, God the Son, died through crucifixion about two thousand years ago and his death counts as a sacrifice, through which all people can be at peace with God.
A Good Relationship with God
A person is in a good relationship with God when they are saved through Jesus. A person enters into a saved state and is safe from God’s eternal anger by admitting that they are a sinner, and accepting Jesus’s crucifixion sacrifice to cover for their sins. They also determine to live a life to honor Him upon becoming saved.
The Church
The Church, all saved people around the world, is God’s mechanism to tell others about God’s gift of grace and serves as representatives of Jesus on Earth until He returns.
The Baptist Faith and Message
In 2000, the Southern Baptist Convention adopted a new official statement of faith. It can be found here.
