The Beatitudes, Part 1

Sitting down on the mountain near a town called Capernaum and listening to Jesus teach must have been truly amazing. His "Sermon on the Mount," as it is called, begins with several declarations of what actions are blessed by God, which together are known by the name the Beatitudes. Today we focused on "Blessed are the poor in spirit, for the Kingdom of Heaven is theirs." Being poor in spirit means we are not full of pride, instead, we come with a humble attitude. Instead of thinking that God is lucky to have us, we should know that we are sinners who are lucky to have God.
