What is joy in a biblical sense? As Dusty brought up in today’s sermon, it is deeper than just a simple sense of happiness. It may be tied to the reality of eternal life with Jesus:
"So with you: Now is your time of grief, but I will see you again and you will rejoice, and no one will take away your joy." - John 16:22 NLT.
Also, our godly joy is not supposed to end, and most certainly not in a time of hardship:
"Dear brothers and sisters, when troubles of any kind come your way, consider it an opportunity for great joy. For you know that when your faith is tested, your endurance has a chance to grow. So let it grow, for when your endurance is fully developed, you will be perfect and complete, needing nothing." - James 1:2-4 NLT.
It was well put in the final prayer of today's service, "Its not happiness, because happiness is temporary. Joy, the joy of faith in You is forever, and we do rejoice in it."
Let us have the joy of God with us this week and forever.
